Broken Strings (Episodes 46-49) PL 12
The heroes returned to Freedom City, sort of sobered from their experience with the speedsters, but ready to defend their home once more. Early one morning, a pair of transforming robots attacked the city leading to a gleeful Bowman chasing them on the Bowcycle. It turned out there was more than meets the eye for these robots, as they were a distraction to cover multiple crimes across Freedom City. The FLD headed to the Kirby Museum of Fine Art to find security footage of a painting coming to life and smashing a vase (as well as a couple of really surly police officers.)
There was also a break in at the Upper Deck card shop on the Boardwalk where some Freedom League Dark action figures came to life and trashed the place and an attack on a houseboat by inflatable sharks. The team followed these strange capers to Pete E Popcorn’s Family Funhouse in time to find Warden under attack by an animatronic band.
Warden explained that the Dungeon Dimension was under attack by the forces of Toyboy and asked the heroes to help. Toyboy was apparently after the Mask of Malador. He did explain that they had to play it cool when they got there however, because Warden was hiding a really big secret. Upon arriving in the Dungeon Dimension, they found Adrian Eldritch, alive and locked in one of the cells.
Adrian explained that he had faked his death and locked himself away for 14 years, hiding himself here so he could play his role in the upcoming catastrophe. The arrival of the heroes was the cue he needed for the next part of the plan. He joined the FLD and together they navigated the Dungeon Dimension, facing the ancient dracolich Mac Aohda, and racing to the Vault where they confronted Toyboy. In the chaos, the Mask of Malador flew away, disappearing out of the Dungeon Dimension. The heroes banded together and stopped Toyboy, but as they did, the Vault door slammed shut. Sophie’s voice answered from the other side, stating that she wouldn’t let them out while Adrian was still alive. It turned out Sophie was one of Eldritch’s former apprentices, one he thought too dangerous to become Master Mage. He wiped her memory, but it didn’t stick and Sophie had been using her connection to the FLD to track down Adrian for her vengeance. Adrian sacrificed himself, consuming himself in phoenix fire but not before bestowing his Cloak of Flight upon Resonant.
